Warangal: The gram panchayats (GPs) that ensure 100 per cent survival of saplings will get incentives, Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said. Speaking at a meeting in connection with the 30-day special action plan at Narayanagiri village under Dharmasagar mandal on Tuesday, he said that participation of the people is crucial to realise the concept of clean, green and sustainable village come true. There was no dearth of funds to turn villages into model ones, he said.

"Narayanagiri village would get about Rs 70 lakh from the government in addition to the revenue accrued locally. Now, it's up to villagers to make their choice in choosing developmental works on priority basis," Patil said, encouraging the locals to forge a stakeholder relationship for village development. He appealed to villagers to participate in the shramadanam (volunteering of labour).

Later, he inspected the community toilets and dustbins in the village. Impressed by the avenue plantation taken up in the village, the Collector said that GPs that manage to protect the saplings would be given incentives. He told the civic body to engage a tractor for watering the saplings. He also told them to engage watchers to protect the trees. The watchers will be paid under employment guarantee scheme, he added.
