In addition to video calling, mobile games also took India by storm during the lockdown. As parents were busy with remote work and struggled to maintain work-life balance, the mobile game's popularity increased among the younger generation.

During the earlier pandemic, Indians were spending almost 7 hours a week playing games on their mobiles. The duration has increased among the majority (53 percent) since the lockdown earlier this year. Surprisingly, during the lockdown, 15 percent of gamers switched to paid mobile gaming apps, while free gaming apps increased by 8 percent.

As per the CyberMedia Research (CMR) report released in November, mobile games increased by three out of five serious gamers. The average duration of the increased four hours since the lockdown began in the country. Indian men played action/adventure (71 percent) and first-person shooter (63 percent) games on their smartphones. "Call of Duty Mobile" and "Garena Free Fire" were popular first-person shooter games. Among women, puzzles game got popular by 65 percent, followed by multiplayer players (56 percent).

Among Us, from game company InnerSloth, was the most downloaded mobile game worldwide in September 2020 with 83.8 million installs, 40 times more than the title in September 2019. In India, children became crazy about him. Among Us is a multiplayer game, it's all about teamwork and betrayal. You and your fellow crew members can play this game online or via a local Wi-Fi network and keeping your spaceship together. Each player must cooperate in returning to civilization.

2. PUBG Mobile

PUBG Mobile has become the highest-grossing mobile game of 2020. According to Sensor Tower, the Tencent-owned game generated revenue of about $ 2.6 billion from both the Google Play and the Apple App Store. The figure represents a 64 percent increase from last year.

According to data from Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, both PUBG Mobile and its renowned version in China called Game For Peace managed to get the highest revenue from the Play Store and App Store. The popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) mobile app was 118 Chinese apps that the Indian government banned in September on national security grounds.

In November PUBG Corporation said that it is returning to India to create an Indian subsidiary and a new game.

Ludo King, which launched in 2016, became one of the top five most installed mobile games in April. During the initial phase of growth, the ongoing lockdown, Ludo King, gained the top spot on Google Play's free games charts for a few days.

A Mumbai-based Indian studio Gametion Technologies Pvt Ltd, free app developer, brought the classic board game to the digital platform. Amid pandemic, it was downloaded millions of times in the country. It broke all mobile gaming records in India, becoming the best gaming app on all platforms. It is a cross-platform app that can work on Android, iOS, desktop, and even the Windows mobile platform. Ludo King outperformed popular games like Candy Crush Saga, PUBG, Clash of Clans, Subway Surfers, Temple Run and others in India.

4. Garena Free Fire

Garena Free Fire became one of the five highest-grossing entries in the burgeoning genre since its release in late 2017. Garena Free Fire (also called Free Fire Battlegrounds or Free Fire) is a royale battle game developed by 111 Dots Studio, and Garena published it for Android and iOS.

In 2019, the game received the "Best Popular Voting Game" award from the Google Play Store. In May 2020, Free Fire made a record with more than 80 million daily active users worldwide. As of November 2019, Free Fire has raised over a billion dollars worldwide.
