WhatsApp's 'upcoming' Forwarded messages plan to curb fake news

Update: 2019-03-22 17:39 IST

According to WABetaInfo, the online platform that tracks all future functions of WhatsApp, the instant messaging service will soon launch two new features called "Forwarding information" and "Frequent Forwarding". Forwarding information will be available in the "Message information" section. Here, users can see how many times a message has been forwarded. As per WABetaInfo, this information will only be available for messages sent as users "because the user can navigate to the message information only for the messages he sent". Because of this, if you want to see how many times a message has been forwarded, you will have to resend it and return to Message information.

In addition to this, WhatsApp will also display a new tag called "frequent forwarding" for a message that has been resent more than four times. Interestingly, if a message comes with the "Frequent Forwarding" tag, the "Forwarding Information" function does not appear to be available. Therefore, it must be assumed that it has been resent at least five times.

It is said that these two features are not available at this time, but are expected to be implemented soon. WhatsApp first launched the forward tag feature in July 2018. "WhatsApp will specify which messages you received were forwarded to you, this additional context will help make individual and group chats easier to follow. It helps to determine if your friend or family member wrote the message you sent or if it originally came from someone else, " told the social networking company at the time, and then in January 2019, the platform extended it worldwide." WhatsApp carefully evaluated this test and listened to user comments for a period of six months. The forwarding limit significantly reduced messages forwarded worldwide.

From today onwards, all users of the latest versions of WhatsApp can now forward to only five chats at a time. Which will help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts, WhatsApp told.
