Twitter reacts as Sourav Ganguly gears up to be appointed as BCCI President

Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly is all set to take over the reins of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).

The 47-year-old filed his nomination for the post on Monday at the BCCI headquarters, with N Srinivasan, Niranjan Shah and Rajeev Shukla by his side.

Ganguly, who is line to be elected unopposed as the BCCI President, will become the second Indian cricketer, after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram, to serve the role.

The Maharaja of Vizianagarama.k.aVizzy, had held duties as the BCCI President between 1954 and 1956. It is also to be noted that Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav had served as interim Presidents in 2014.

Ganguly, who is currently serving as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), will relinquish his post in October 2020 to undergo a mandatory cool off period.

Hailed as one of the finest players to captain India, Sourav Ganguly is fondly remembered for leading the team on several fronts.

From unearthing young talents to helming overseas victories, Dada, as he's famously called, holds a special place in the history of Indian cricket.

With Ganguly all geared up to take the chair as the head of the BCCI, several cricketing experts, politicians and fans took to Twitter to wish him on his new assignment.
