'MS Dhoni will play in 2020 T20 World Cup,' DJ Bravo backs his CSK skipper
Dwayne Bravo, who recently came out of T20I retirement, has backed MS Dhoni to play in the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Bravo, who retired from all the formats last year, officially made himself available for selection in the West Indies T20I side in the lead-up to their T20 World Cup defence. However, the all-rounder has confirmed that he does not want to play ODIs and Test cricket.
Bravo has been a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the 2011 season and has spent enough time with Dhoni to understand the former Indian skipper. Having played and won trophies under the captaincy of Dhoni, Bravo is certain that if Dhoni has not retired, he will be a part of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in 2020.
"Dhoni has never retired. So I think he will be there at the World T20. MS has never let things outside cricket influence him and he has taught us the same and told us to never panic and trust our abilities," said Bravo.
According to a news report, Bravo also spoke about his current situation in the West Indies squad.
"I feel good physically and I still have a lot to offer. I had retired because of off-field politics. But there is a change of leadership both on and off the field. So I felt that it is a good time to come back.
This is a very talented, vibrant and young side. If the talent of these youngsters can be managed properly and seniors like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and I can return to the squad, we can be world beaters again," the 36-year-old added.
Bravo, who has played a significant role in the past for his national side under tricky conditions, has insisted that the two-time T20 World Cup winners must give the young players more chances. He also added that since the West Indies side is under the leadership of Kieron Pollard and Phil Summons, they are in good hands.
"Pollard knows how to inspire players. What Pollard and Simmons have ensured is that they have given plenty of freedom to youngsters. There is room to make mistakes and learn from them.
This freedom to express themselves is making the youngsters play a fearless brand of cricket and that is the way forward. We have decent pacers and exuberant batsmen too. What they need is game-time and guidance," Bravo added.
