Team India made a memorable outing on Day 1 of the much-frenzied pink ball Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Being asked to bowl first after losing the toss, the hosts breathed fire right from the word go to leave the packed stadium roaring with joy. Extending their dream form from the first Test at Indore, the Indian pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc to leave a hapless Bangladeshi batting lineup reeling once again.

While Imrul Kayes was the first batsman to depart for just 4 runs, skipper Mominul Haque, Mohammad Mithun and senior pro Mushfiqur Rahim soon followed suit for ducks. The remaining batters too couldn't amount to much as the Tigers were bundled out for just 106 in 30.3 overs.

The pick of the bowlers for India was Ishant Sharma, who led the pack with impressive spells of fast bowling. The lanky cricketer picked up his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and also became the first Indian bowler to register a five-for in day night Tests. Fellow speedsters Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami chipped in with three and two wickets to their credit respectively.

Coming out to bat, the Indians were struck with an early blow when the double-centurion from the previous game, Mayank Agarwal, was sent back to the hut by Al-Amin Hossain in the fifth over. Rohit Sharma too disappointed the fans and returned after making 21 runs.

The mantle then was taken over by Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. The duo stitched a brilliant 94 run stand for the third wicket before Pujara got dismissed for a well-made 55. The skipper though carried along his merry way to bring up yet another half-century. Kohli was joined by his deputy Ajinkya Rahane to guide India home without any further loss of wickets. As the umpires called for stumps, the hosts ended the day on 174-3, with a lead of 68 runs.

Earlier in the day, the historic Test was flagged off by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The eminent personalities even greeted the Indian cricketers before the start of play.
