She is unstoppable!:N Sikki Reddy

Badminton doubles specialist N Sikki Reddy has another feather in her cap. She has been recently awarded the coveted Arjuna Award. Warangal-born, Hyderabad-settled Sikki Reddy, a decade ago came to a virtual end of her career because of a knee injuring; with sheer determination and passion Sikki recovered from that injury and switched to doubles event and etched her name in the history of the game. 

“I am very happy to get this award as it was my dad’s dream that I should be awarded Arjuna,” says Sikki. 
Sikki started playing badminton at a tender age of nine. “It was during vacations I joined a summer camp in LB Stadium, Hyderabad, the coach observed me playing and said that I have the potential and he asked me to attend the camp regularly.”

About coping from her knee injury, she says, “I was 16 when I was injured, and I was uncertain about the future. Then Pullela Gopichand sir guided me through my injury, as he also had a knee injury earlier, he supported me and because that I came back to the turf.”

Practising for six hours a day and maintaining a diet that is suggested by her nutritionist Sikki makes sure that she follows them all strictly. She also specifies that her diet also include foods like pasta as she feels that it is yummy. The diet she takes depends upon the body and every three months she goes in for a checkup where she is instructed to have a certain diet. 

About preparing for her upcoming tournaments the champs says, “I am training hard for the Denmark Super Series. I am going to come back and play in China, Hong Kong and Syed Modi Tournament, I will be travelling in the month of November. And 2020 Olympics is our target for which selections will take place in April 2019 for which I need to sacrifice many things.”

Wedding bells are around the corner for Sikki, who is engaged to doubles specialist B Sumeeth Reddy. “We are getting married in February and excited about the new chapter in my life.”
