‘Hoga Tum Se Pyara Kaun’ event on Mar 17

  During the 1960s, Nasir Hussain was a force to reckon with as far as his romantic musical films went.  In fact, it is not for nothing that he is credited as a major trendsetter in Hindi cinema.  Eight of his films belonging to the above genre, beginning with ‘Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai’ in 1961 to ‘Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin’ in 1977 are fondly remembered for the delectable combination of music and entertainment by millions of Hindi film watchers all over the globe.

Dakshin Dhwani, as part of its ‘Monthly Movie Memories’ is coming up with its next programme ‘ Hoga Tum Se Pyara Kaun’ on March 17 based on this legendary director’s hits and also other celebrities whose birth/death anniversaries fall in the month of March. While there are equally celebrated names like Manmohan Desai and Devendra Goel, lyricists such as Sahir Ludhianvi and Anand Bakshi also find mention in this list of nearly 10 icons whose works will be taken up in the form of karaoke music on that Sunday evening.

‘Into its third year and nearing 40 programmes held all over the twin cities, Dakshin Dhwani is doing its bit by enabling enthusiastic renditions of all-time hits of Hindi cinema.  It is important to keep it as a passionate endeavour as the re-mixing of some of these evergreen songs have robbed the essence of it and converted them into noisy EDMs over the years’ rues Prabha, who is busy rehearsing for the event, barely 10 days from now.  

Indeed, it has been a raging controversy among the two groups – the old timers who want these golden numbers to be left alone and the new gen who want to tweak it into the mould they are comfortable with.  Striking a balance, a 25-year-old Mudit Kapoor, a young, regular member of the group since its inception adds: ‘I was exposed to the wonderful combination of tunes and tones of the erstwhile era with Dakshin Dhwani. I love all the latest singers for their energy and variety but I balance my singing interest with generous inclusions from the hits of Rafi, Kishore and Jagjit Singh’. A great blend of the old and new, for sure.
