Creating memories for the future

The exhibition is ‘Childhood Memories’ at Phoenix Arena aims to bring children’s art works under one shed to encourage them to immerse in the world of art. 

Childhood memories are the most precious gifts that we carry for the whole life. The children’s works on display are the cultivation of their own memories and the present situations that create memories for the future.

The exhibition showcase drawings, paintings, pencil sketches, dry pastel and acrylic on canvas by the 17 child artists from grade three (III) to grade eight (VIII) who are studying in different schools of Hyderabad. The exhibition was curated by the Hyderabad-based artists Palakshi Dass and Goutam Pal. They have done master’s in fine arts from Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan (West Bengal). 

These children are learning art under their guidance. They said, “This exhibition is our first attempt to display children works mainly drawings and paintings. These children are with us form last three years. As art teachers we always try to focus on their area of interests and their world of imagination. We do not teach; we facilitate children to explore more from their surroundings. To develop one’s own journey independently, childhood is the best time to start. Here we found their creativities justify to the fact. They are always free to do whatever they want to and we help them to become well equipped with mediums, techniques, skill, self expression and right thinking”.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the artist and art educationist Shravan Kumar Pendyala, Asst. Professor of Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, Karnataka.   He said, “It’s a great opportunity for the children at this age to exhibit artworks and have discussion on it. The impact of the exhibition should sustain with them for long.”

The exhibition ended with a workshop on ‘Reverse Painting’ where many children participated. The display of artworks is open till Friday (February 15, 2019).
