Empowering women through vocational training

Karimnagar: Durgabai Mahila Sisu Vikasa Kendram (DMSVK), which was established four decades ago for the economic and social upliftment of women in Karimnagar, has been instrumental in fulfilling its aim. 

Located near Lower Maneru dam on the suburbs of Karimnagar city, the DMSVK has given training to more than 25,000 women in various vocational courses. The women were helped in getting placements also. Half of these trained women settled with jobs in private sector while the remaining were self-employed.

Normally training will be given in tailoring, computer courses, office management, beautician, pre-primary teacher training, multi-purpose health worker etc. This training institute has been spread over 10 acres with spacious buildings and facilities amidst a pleasant green atmosphere.

Generally, Telangana State Women Cooperative Development Corporation (TSWCDC) will provide funds for the training programme, and sometimes supported by Backward Class, Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribe and Minority Welfare departments. 

The course duration will be three months to one year, based on the training structure and funds availability. The sponsoring agencies will take the responsibility of placements.

During the training period, the management will not only focus on imparting vocational skills but also focus on their discipline, life skills and enlightens them toward social issues, address health parameters, Yoga, karate etc. Field visits are also part of the training schedule and the District Collector had sponsored a bus.
