Bolarum: It was much more than a cooking competition at Ark Homes in Bolarum. As the Hans India organised Ghar Ki Biryani contest reached the sixth gated community, the competition has reached a new level on Sunday. Increase in number and dedication of participants was clearly evident. The judge of the contest, K Karunakar from Regency Hotels, mentioned that in the sixth round it was much difficult to decide the winner because all the competitors were very talented. “Actually, it was very challenging for me to pick only one from this group because all were best. I felt really mesmerised by the dishes I tasted today in Ark Homes. I have also collected some valuable tips from the contestants. For the sake of the contest there should be only one winner and by considering all the other factors I picked the winners from vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections,” adds Karunakar.

B Sai Divya, an entrepreneur, bagged the first prize in vegetarian category. The judge gave cent per cent marks for her Biryani in every criterion which made her the unquestionable winner of the vegetarian section.  “I am very happy today. In my office everyone used to say that my dishes are very delicious but never expected to bag the first prize. I presume the proper selection of vegetables and right amount spice is the secret of success,” says Sai Divya. In the non-vegetarian section, Mamatha Baddaram carried the day. She chose chicken Biryani to showcase her culinary skills. “I cook Biryani once or twice in a month. I have added some extra spices and masala today but the blend of everything in the right proportion made my day,” Mamatha remarked. There were different types of Biryanis to take part in the competition even the North Indian – Bihar and Bhopal styles but once again Hyderabad proved why it is called as the Rome of Biryani.

Jabir Syed, president of Ark Homes Housing Colony, said, “We are all excited and thrilled because of this event. Jabir Syed toiled equally with us to conduct this programme here on such short notice.” Said Srinivas: “The talent was always there, we just provided a platform.” Contestants Ranjana Sinha, S Revati and Divya Sunil exhibited their talent in singing on the occasion. Radha Sudhakar and party stepped rhythmically for a song. Tips for both kitchen and outside shared by Pavani A, Chanda Vadde and Sailaja Mayana have shown that they are equally dexterous in other areas also. Dances performed by the young talents Sruthika, Poornima and Rithwika and a song from ‘Taxiwala’ by Druv added a rich flavour to the event.
