Monks from abroad visit Buddhavanam

Hyderabad: B Manohar, the Managing Director (FAC), Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation, said that a ‘Buddhist Tour’ was held recently for the Buddhist monks and delegates who arrived from 10 different countries including Taiwan, Malaysia, Hongkong, USA, Indonesia, Thailand, England, Singapore, China and India with a group of 215 members. 

The main purpose of the tour was to attract students from local, national and international levels.  The influence of Buddhism in Telangana State dates two millennia ago during the very lifetime of Gautam Buddha in 5th century BC. The Buddhavanam Project at Nagarjunasagar is established in 724 acres on left bank of Nagarjunasagar Dam. This project entails special attraction of Buddha Charithavanam, Jataka Park, Dhyanavanam, Stupa Park, Acharya Nagarjuna International Centre, Lower Krishna Valley Park, Buddhism in Telangana and Maha Stupa. 

These attractions at Buddhavanam Project has drawn attention of local, national and international tourists, especially South East Asian countries. The Fo Guang Shan Cultural and Educational Centre (Taiwan) Chief monk along with the team visited and was impressed with the tour. He proposed to construct a Novice Monk School, Buddha Temple Complex and Vocational Training centre in an area of 20 acres.
