Stage set for counting of votes in Khammam district
Khammam: Everybody in the district is waiting for the day to be over and morning to come as the election results will be announced on Tuesday. The Election Commission is also well prepared for the occasion. The electoral officials will count nearly 9,33,124 votes that were cast in the Assembly elections held on December 7 in five constituencies of Khammam district.
An average of 85 per cent of polling was recorded in all the five constituencies with highest 91.65% in Madhira and least in Khammam with 73.98 percent of voter turnout.
The votes will be counted at Vijaya Engineering College in Khammam city. Counting will be held for 22 rounds for Khammam constituency, 19 rounds for Palair Assembly segment, 18 rounds for Madhira, 17 rounds for Wyra and 19 rounds for Sattupalli constituency respectively.
The results will determine the political fortunes of the candidates including some prominent leaders such as Tummala Nageswara Rao (TRS), Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (Congress), Nama Nageswara Rao (TDP), Bhukya Veerabhadram (CPM) and new faces like film actress Reshma Rathod (BJP) and Dr. Kota Ram Babu (BLF).
District Collector RV Karnan said that although the counting process would start at 8 am, the officials who were deployed for the duty would assemble at the counting centre much before. “All those are involved in the counting process have been told to report two hours before on tomorrow morning (Tuesday). They will have to come without their mobile phones and none of them will be allowed to leave until the entire process gets over,” he added.
