Congress goes into huddle on govt formation in Telangana

Update: 2018-12-11 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: Taking cue from the recent predictions that no party will secure comfortable majority in Telangana, Congress high command started work on forming the government if the People’s Front emerges as the single largest party. It requires 60 members support out of the 119 strength in the Assembly for any party to stake claim and form the government.

Leaders said that Karnataka Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar was already in Hyderabad and holding series of meetings with Telangana Congress leaders and ascertaining the political developments post the elections, which were held on December 7. The AICC high command also deputed party’s trouble shooter and senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to Hyderabad to oversee the political developments and take necessary decisions after the completion of the counting of votes.

Azad was likely to arrive in the city on Monday night if not then Tuesday morning.  After meeting Governor ESL Narasimhan, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy held a meeting with senior leaders Madhu Yashki Goud, Mohd Shabbir Ali, Balaram Naik and others at his residence.

It is learnt that Uttam asked the contestants from the Front to come to Congress head office at Gandhi Bhavan soon after the announcement of the poll results. He will hold meeting with all the elected members in the presence of Azad. Depending on the outcome of the results, the Congress will take decisions on the formation of the government by the Front.
