Arrangements in place for today’s polling
Warangal: As many as 6,76,048 voters are expected to cast their vote in three constituencies – Warangal West, Warangal East and Wardhannapet – in the elections in Warangal Urban district on Friday. A total of 61 candidates are in the race for three Assembly constituencies.
The administration had appointed 3,200 polling personnel for the smooth conduct of polling between 7 am and 6 pm. The polling personnel will be assisted by 700 NSS volunteers.
District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said that they have ensured digital surveillance in all 690 polling stations. The administration, which identified 150 polling centres as critical, appointed micro observers to ensure peaceful polling.
So far, the administration had provided postal ballots to 2,083 employees and of which 1,200 have been polled. To ensure peaceful polling, the administration had deployed 2,000 police personnel in addition to 12 companies of Central Forces. Authorities made arrangements for direct webcasting from 440 polling stations and CCTV surveillance from 250 polling stations.
The administration has set up Help Desks at every polling station besides providing wheelchairs and ramp provision so that to help elderly and differently challenged voters.
“It’s time for the people to gird up their loins to strengthen the democracy,” Prashanth Jeevan Patil said, appealing to people to utilise their vote to elect right person.
Utmost a person in his lifetime would get a chance of voting eight to 10 times, he said, referring to the administration’s efforts to improve the voting percentage. It may be noted here that in all there are 172 candidates in the fray in 12 constituencies in the erstwhile Warangal district.
