An evening of matchless melodies

It was an intimate and enthusiastic meeting of team Dakshin Dhwani on Saturday evening at Phoenix Arena as they got together to stage their 20th musical programme ‘Jo Tumko Ho Pasand’, since their first programme in October 2016. Organised by Bhavan’s College Alumni Association, the music group took up various remixed versions of the hits of the 1980s in their presentation of musical numbers - 26 in all, during the three-hour long melodious sojourn.

Beginning with the title track, sung by legendary singer Mukesh in the 1970 hit Safar as a tribute to Feroz Khan, the 10 singers and a harmonica enthusiast kept up a steady momentum. Like always, it was not unusual for young singers to pick up songs from the 1960s and 1970s while the older ones tried their hand out at later versions. In all, there were 19 celebrities, who were born and who died in the month of September, which included leading names in the fields of film direction, music composition, lyrics and playback singing.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the show and were heard remarking that such kinds of nostalgic nights bring back fond memories of the times that has gone by, which had a different ambience in the film making sphere of Indian cinema. Despite severe traffic pressures, reflecting the weekend mood of the hi-tech city, the dedicated patrons had made it to experience the unique mix of melodies that the group had strung together for their exclusive listening pleasure.
