Safety balm for Osmania General Hospital staff soon

Hyderabad: The protesting staff at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) can expect safe working conditions in coming weeks with Health Department taking steps to relocate some wards within hospital premises.

Director of Medical Education, Dr Ramesh Reddy, said the engineers from TSMSIDC (Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation) are working out plans to carry out repairs of unused JUDA Quarters, part of old block. Apart from it, the engineers are planning to carry out repairs of another structure to provide facilities for 500 patients. Repair works will begin soon, and they are expected to be completed in one-and-half to two months, DME said. He made it abundantly clear that there is dearth of funds.

Meanwhile, members of Junior Doctors Association held a rally and protest on OGH premises on Saturday demanding that the government expedite the construction of new building project. It may be mentioned here that in the last one month there were incidents of roof crumbling causing minor injuries to junior doctors, nursing staff as well as patients. As a result of it medical staff has been resorting to different forms of protests.

Doctors, junior doctors, nurses wore helmets for protection while discharging their duties last week. The doctor had also examined the outpatients under trees a day earlier. In continuation, OGH JAC wore helmets while discharging their duties to drive home the message that their safety was at risk.
