Ponnam terms TRS meet a flop

Karimnagar: Senior Congress leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday came down heavily on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for not condemning the arrest of revolutionary poet and human rights activist Varavara Rao.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Prabhakar said the Pragati Nivedana Sabha organised by the TRS spending crores of rupees was an utter flop and it proved to be a dud despite the party’s tall claims of mobilising 25 lakh people to Kongara Kalan meeting venue. Not even 20 percent of 25 lakh people that the party claimed turned up for the much-hyped meeting, he said.

He also questioned Chief Minister and the TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s ‘istava sastava’ remarks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on zonal system in the State and asked if it was proper for a person of his stature to such a language while talking to the Prime Minister.

It was quite surprising that Chandrashekar Rao, who never spoke about zonal system in his four-years of rule, suddenly became so particular about the system. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official representative Regulapati Ramya Rao and others were present in the meeting.
