Congress workers celebrate Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary

Khammam: The Congress leaders and workers celebrated the 74th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi across the district on Monday. The party functionaries garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi and paid glorious tributes to the former Prime Minster at the party office.

Speaking on the occasion, District Congress Committee (DCC) spokesperson Puvalla Durga Prasad said, the vision and dynamic leadership of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi gave new direction to the country towards integrated development in rural areas.

Rajiva Gandhi was instrumental in ensuring the voting age of citizens should be 18 years and also in releasing funds directly to the local bodies (village panchayats), he added. The services of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi will not go waste.

Following his footsteps, the Congress party activists and leaders will strive hard for maintaining the national integrity. He appealed to the party cadre to strengthen the Congress party from village level to come to power in the upcoming elections for fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of former Prime Minister.
