The two-time Paralympics gold medalist, Devendra Jhajharia, set to retire
India’s most prominent Paralympic, who gave two gold medals in Javelin Throw at the Paralympic Games. He brought glory to the nation with his impressive javelin throws.
Jhajharia has received Padma Shri award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna award, for his contribution in Games. Now he wants to try his hand in athletics. He has decided to compete in the men’s F46 event at the ongoing Para-Asian Games in Jakarta.
Jhajharia’s left hand was amputated when he was eight years old. He touched a live electric cable while climbing a tree.
His decision to retire is mainly because of the recurring shoulder injury which is troubling and restricting him from performing with the same zeal. He is the only Indian who gave India two gold medals at Paralympics.
This Rajasthan born Paralympics –athlete said, “I made up my mind a year ago, but I didn’t announce it thinking about the competition in the Jakarta Para-Asian Games one last time."
