Trouble over Pot: Chandan Shetty serves notice for his song on 'Marijuana'
BENGALURU: Rapper Chandan Shetty has found himself in a pit of trouble for a song named ‘Anthya’ which he recorded three years ago, as the narcotics squad of Bengaluru police has summoned the singer for questioning. The song is about marijuana (ganja), which is banned in India.
BS Mohan Kumar, the assistant commissioner of police (women and narcotics squad), Central Crime Branch, issued a notice to Shetty on August 23 asking him to appear for questioning by August 24. However, the police officials said Shetty hasn't showed up even until Monday night. “We expect him to come on Tuesday,” the officer said.
Kumar said in the notice that Anthya was watched by a large number of people, and expressed concern that it could have influenced them to consume ganja. The song was uploaded on YouTube on July 18, 2015 and has had 95.6 lakh views so far. The notice asks Shetty why police can’t register a case against him. “We have not registered any case against Shetty. We are waiting for his reply to our notice. We will question him to know his intention behind the lyrics and then decide the course of action,” CCB police said.
