300 vehicles get destroyed at the 2019 Aero India
NEW DELHI: This afternoon in Bangalore, at the parking lot of the venue of the air show, around 300 vehicles were destroyed by a big fire. Officials have said that, the cause of the fire might be a lit cigarette which was disposed on the grass in the open field.
Thick black smoke could be seen in the sky near the Yelahanka air base which is located in north Bengaluru, where hundreds of aircrafts have been parked for the biennial Aero India 2019 event.
Senior police officer MN Reddi said the fire spread quickly because of the dry grass and strong winds. Hundreds of vehicles, which also included two-wheelers, were seen parked in rows in the open ground, that was surrounded by fire. "Fire in the open field parking lot of aero show. Nearly 20 cars burnt. Fire fighting operations by Chief Fire Officer and 10 water tenders staff under way (sic)," Mr Reddi tweeted.
The air show was suspended temporarily as the fire began to spread and no planes took off from the airbase until the fire was tamed.
