GHMC sets up first ever refrigerator in Hyderabad to provide food to hungry

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up a refrigerator at Shilparamam as a part of its new initiative 'Feed the Need' aiming to reduce food wastage in the city. People who want to help the needy or provide food to them can place it in the refrigerator. The refrigerator has two compartments vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi launched the scheme on Thursday at Shilparamam. Speaking at the launch event, the mayor appealed to citizens to place the leftover food during any occasions in the refrigerator to help the poor instead of throwing it. 

The GHMC is already running a Rs 5 meal scheme through 150 Annapurna centres which provide food for over 45,000 people in a day. Besides, the scheme, it also set up ATW water points aiming to provide clean water to the people.
