Telangana crime report 2018: Overall crime rate falls to 5 per cent
Telangana DGP Mahendar Reddy has released crime report for the year 2018 here at state police headquarters on Sunday. The DGP said that they are practising people-friendly policing since the formation of Telangana. He also said that their aim is to make the state free from crimes. "The state has witnessed 5 per cent decrease in overall crime rate in 2018," said DGP unveiling the crime report.
While the murder rate decreased to 4 per cent, the properties disputes reduced to 8 per cent. Chain snatching cases have come down to 43 per cent while crime against women slumped to 7 per cent. Cybercrime is reported to have decreased to 3 per cent.
The life imprisonment for the accused has risen to 11 per cent. The state has seen a 29 per cent decrease in robbery cases, 10 per cent in bank robbery, 51 per cent in ATM theft, 19 per cent in abduction cases. Around 1,02,307 cases were registered in 2018. The report also stated a decrease of 3 per cent in the crime against SC and ST, 20, 325 road accidents.
The DGP further expressed regret over the honour killings in the state. He said that serious action will be taken on the accused to prevent them from occurring in future.
