OU VC denies giving permission for women's meeting at Arts College
Hyderabad: The Osmania University has strongly denied that it has given permission to the massive meeting today in front of Arts College.
Expressing his dismay, Prof. S. Ramachandram, Vice Chancellor, said that large number of people, mostly women were persuaded by “self styled” leaders from nearly 16 Telangana districts to gather in large numbers in the premises of Arts College in the name of “Ancient Culture Research Feast with Shivashakthulu & Rural Goddess Priests” program. The Vice Chancellor warned such leaders not to use the University precincts for personal gains and non academic issues which would tarnish the image of the University. “Any such activity other than academics will not be allowed in the University premises, and we will not hesitate to initiate legal action in this regard” he said.
Giving details of today’s meet, he said that the University would initiate stringent action against the Post doctoral scholar from the Archaeology Department for working in league with some vested interest organizations and mobilizing women for the massive gathering. He said he was surprised to see large number of women converging in front of Arts college and staging protests without any prior permission from the University or the local police authorities. He said it was sad to see women who arrived from distant places had to face hardships like lack of food and water.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated that henceforth, the University would not be lenient in such cases and would continue to turn down petitions for such non academic activities. Further, the University officials appealed the students and Staff to organize events focused on academics only.
