Sleuths of the Vigilance and Even department seize rice worth ₹8.83 lakhs

 Tirupati: On Tuesday the department of Sleuths of the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) had raided a godown in the Chintala Chenu area of Tirupati and seized rice worthing upto ₹8.83 lakh, which was meant for supply through the public distribution system (PDS). 

Officials, who were led by the Superintendent of Police P.V. Radhakrishna, found 797 bags of rice which weighed 27.6 tonnes and belonging to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The bags were hoarded at a godown which is owned by Kishore Kumar, who procured the rice from beneficiaries at the price of ₹10 to 12 per kg, for the purpose of packing and selling in the market.

The raid was conducted by V&E Inspector Maddah Achari, Deputy Commercial Taxes Officer Srinivasulu, Assistant Supplies Officer Seshachalam Raju and Deputy Tahsildar Surendra.
