Telangana Assembly Elections 2018: Jwala Gutta claims her name went missing from voters' list

Hyderabad: The assembly polls were originally organised to be simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year, but the House was dissolved rashly on September 6 as per a recommendation by the state cabinet.

Questioning the righteousness of Telangana elections that are being held on Friday (December 7), badminton player Jwala Gutta claimed that her name has gone missing from the voters' list."Surprised to see my name disappear from the voting list after checking online," Gutta tweeted in the morning.

"How’s the election fair when names are mysteriously disappearing from the list?" she asked in the second tweet. The player declared that she found out about this when she went to the polling booth in the morning.

She is’t the only person to whom this has happened, voters who claim they had voted in the same polling booth last year said they found their names missing in the list this year. A frustrated youth at a polling booth in Jubilee Hills said, “Everyone curses the youth saying we don’t vote. When we do come out to vote, something bad like this happens. Who is responsible for this?”

The voting in Telangana is underway a three-way battle among the Congress-led alliance (consisting of TDP, TJS and CPI), the BJP and the TRS.

The assembly polls were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year, but the House was dissolved prematurely on September 6 as per a reporting by the state cabinet.

The Election Commission is using Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in Telangana for the first time.Last week, the Bharatiya Janata Party had alleged that names of Rohingya Muslims have been illegally included in the voters' list of 15 assembly seats in Hyderabad as part of a "joint conspiracy" of the ruling TRS along with AIMIM and Congress and demanded a probe by the Election Commission.
