NEW DELHI:On Friday the congress President Rahul Gandhi had disapproved the remarks of the party leader C P Joshi by slamming it as casteist, and had also asked him to express his regret.

Gandhi with his tweet in Hindi, had said that the remarks of Joshi do not reflect, and are in contrary, towards the ideals of the Congress party, as he had urged the party leaders to refrain from making such statements.

"C P Joshi S remark is contrary to the Congress party's ideals. Party leaders should not give such statement that hurts any segment of the society,” Gandhi said.

"While respecting the Congress party's principles and the sentiments of party workers, I am sure Joshiji will realise his mistake. He should express regret over his remarks," Gandhi said on Twitter.

On Thursday in Rajasthan, while addressing a poll meeting, Joshi had reportedly said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP MP Uma Bharti and the Hindu activist Sadhvi Ritambhara are from "lower castes" and they do not know anything about Hinduism. He also said that it is the Brahmins who have learned and are aware with knowledge about Hinduism.

The remarks have come ahead of the Assembly elections in Rajasthan which will be held on December 7 and in Madhya Pradesh on November 28. The remarks might be having the potential of alienating the lower caste voters.
