Hyderabad Twin blasts verdict: court convicts 2, acquits 2 others

Hyderabad: Of the five accused, the II Additional Metropolitan sessions court on Tuesday convicted two people in connection with 2007 twin blasts case and acquitted two other people. A verdict on another person will be pronounced on Monday along with sentencing on others. Aneeq Shafique Sayeed and Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chowdhari were declared as convicted.

Around 44 people were killed in 2007 twin blasts at popular eatery Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park which also left 68 injured. However, the traffic police have disposed of another bomb which was planted in high populated area Dilsukhnagar. 

The blasts which are believed to have been held by the Indian Mujahideen (IM) left several people feared dead in the city.

The police arrested five people, Sayeed, Chowdhari, Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkash, Mohammed Sadiq Israr Ahmed Shaik and Tarik Anjum in the case and had sent them for Cherlapalli jail. 

The accused were charged under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and sections of Explosive Substances Act.
