Art over conversations

Update: 2018-08-18 05:30 IST

Senior artist Koeli Mukherjee Ghose’s ‘Open Studio’ concept is helping people understand art better

Koeli Mukherjee Ghose, senior artist, art curator and art historian is painting her works live at Ailamma Art Gallery titled ‘Open Studio’. She is also displaying her collections portrayed from 2007 to 2018.

Her main intention of the ‘Open Studio’ was to interact with the audience while painting and help audience to know better about art.
Koeli Mukherjee said, “Open Studio is an opportunity where I partake in company of visitors, over conversations.

It is the threshold of plunging deep into the act of painting and drawing while being attentive to my surroundings and the people who come. The stream of flowing thoughts is interjected with constant diversions and I am constantly changing my course.

It is also my message to fellow artists to discover their very special way of connecting with viewers,”

The Open Studio concept celebrates the artist’s involvement with the visual arts of seeing, feeling, experiencing the fragility of moments. Reading everyday happenings with a poetic sensibility.

“My exhibition showcases select works whilst striking a conversation with visitors about why visual art is a specialised form of art and the need to look at works of art and find how they look back and show themselves,” added Koeli Mukherjee.

Sharing her style of work, she informed, “I create a random pulling in of transparent hues of water colour on wet ground, indeed it is a technique that has been learnt but I use it to create a challenge for myself,”

She said that visitors understand better in Open Studio concept when compared to regular art displays. “It is easy for viewers to read an artist’s mind. Most people think that art is like abstract and difficult to understand.

It is not about learning, it’s about the conversation between the artist and audience. Till now, the response was great from visitors,”
