Vikarabad Collector urges sarpanches, SHGs to help achieve Haritha Haram target

Vikarabad:  District Collector Sayyad Omar Jallel called upon sarpanches, women’s groups, MPTCs, panchayat secretaries and officials to take part in the Haritha Haram programme and make the plantation drive a grand success. 

Addressing the gathering here on Tuesday, he said quoting the new Panchayat Raj Act that employees, people and all sections of society to take part in the programme and strive to achieve the target fixed for each panchayat: planting 40,000 saplings. He wanted them to collect saplings needed for them from nurseries. 

A plan has been prepared to distribute fruit-bearing, flower-bearing trees, curry leaves and teak plant for each household. The new legislations prescribe heavy fines on house-owners who are negligent in protecting the saplings planted. 

The government will pay Rs 5 to a watchman for conserving the trees. Excise department officials have been asked to plant toddy trees on tank bunds and vacant lands. He appealed to people to cooperate with the district administration in planting over 1.60 crore saplings in the district. 

The sarpanches, MPTCs andothers who have taken part in the meeting advised the district collector to provide tree guards to the saplings planted and provide water through tankers for the success of the programme.  

DRDO Johnson, Divisional Forest Officer Venu Madhav, District Panchayat Officer Majid, Excise superintendent Vara Prasad and others took part in the programme.
