“International Plastic Bag Free Day”

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is progressively working on elimination of single use plastics in the city. As part of this, GHMC is organizing various activities like on the eve of “International Plastic Bag Free Day” on Tuesday. 

Some of the activities include “Give up single use plastic” campaign in all GHMC offices, taking pledge by school students and GHMC staff to “Say no to single use plastic” in its various forms in our daily lives. “Plastic suffocation campaign” where all the sanitation staff participating in the campaign will cover their face with plastic carry bag and make a rally at markets, rhythu bazaars, public areas like parks, malls, etc.

Since past one week, GHMC and Radio Mirchi has been campaigning aggressively on segregation of waste and to ban single use plastic at all markets of GHMC. Earlier, GHMC conducted various campaigns on plastic ban at various major parks, signature campaign at shopping malls and crowded areas and black bag campaign under which approximately 1.5 to 2 tonnes of plastic was collected in June from all 30 circles in streets at circle-level to aware citizens on plastic waste accumulation. GHMC along with HSBC conducted a special massive drive to collect plastic waste at various locations, on Sunday, where one tonne of plastic waste collected.
