The workshop emphasized on the increasing incidences of stress among school children and the need of life-skills training during adolescence to cope with it. Out of the gathered students, most of them admitted to the rising stress, loneliness and getting carried away in the reel life.

“Social Media has overtaken a prominent place in the lives of adolescents. Even though Social networking sites are useful, it may backfire as well. Kids in the age group of 13-17 years of age are at a vital stage of growth and development both physiological and psychosocial. At such a tender age, their attention seems to be distracted towards unnecessary things.” said Dr Anandi Lal, Senior Consultant, and HOD, Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali.

“Cyber bullying is one of the most common causes of emotional trauma among school students and leads to mental distress which sometimes also can lead to suicides. Adolescence is thus a period of higher potential with a greater vulnerability to high-risk situation. And thus developing life skills at such early age is an efficacious tool for empowering them to act responsibly to control It.” said Dr Anandi Lal.

Life skills include the abilities to adapt for a positive behavior to enable self to deal efficiently with day to day challenges. Such workshops on psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills will be helpful for people to take informed decisions, solve problems and develop critical and creative thinking. Developing such skills will enable them to build healthy relationships, and cope with better life management in a healthy and productive manner.

Coping with stress is one of the aspects that need to be briefed in controlling their levels of stress. An important aspect of the skill is to learn to manage intense emotions like anger or sadness which can have a negative impact on our health. It is thus necessary to learn positive coping styles and replacing passive with active mechanisms to learn to relax in such situations.
