Drug racket busted, one person arrested

Hyderabad:  The Prohibition and Excise officials on Saturday busted a drug racket and arrested a person. A huge haul of Alprazolam tablets brought from Karnataka were seized from the possession of the arrested person, identified as P Rajesh, the officials said. The Excise officials claimed to have seized huge haul of narcotics during the searches in Ranga Reddy district. The accused used to target daily wage workers.

The Ranga Reddy Excise Enforcement team said in all 8,200 tables were seized from the accused. The officials said Rajesh (35), a resident of Mohannagar at Kothapet in Hyderabad, was caught near Big Bazaar at LB Nagar. He had purchased 20,000 tablets, at the rate of Rs 5 each from Yadgir in Karnataka. He sold each tablet at the rate of Rs 100 each. He had sold more than 10,000 tablets during the past six months, the officials said. 

“Targeting construction workers, daily wage labourers, auto-rickshaw drivers, he at the beginning used to sell each tablet at Rs 5 or Rs 10, but later started selling them at exorbitant price to earn easy money,” said the officials. What is intriguing is that the officials received a tip-off about the peddling of drugs of  from one of the persons who fell prey to the drugs. The officials registered a case under  A case was registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) ACT, 1985.
