Mammootty eyes more Telugu movies?
Malayalam superstar Mammootty wants to do more Telugu movies after seeing the reception for his upcoming film ‘Yatra,’ wherein he reprises the role of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on screen. “He was getting some offers while dubbing for ‘Yatra’ but he is looking for meaty roles that would justify his immense talent and stature,’ says a source, close to the unit. He is happy about putting in his best for the role of late YSR and wants to do more challenging stuff.
“Actually, Mammootty was offered Sai Kumar’s role in ‘Prasthanam’ but he wasn’t happy with the negative role and thumbed it down,” the source adds. In fact,Mammootty did a straight Telugu film ‘Swathi Kiranam’ almost 25 years ago, and won critical acclaim for his splendid performance. “He kept away from Telugu films for a long time,” the source points.
Now that, his colleague Mohan Lal is making inroads in T-town with films like ‘Janatha Garage’ and ‘Manamantha’, Mammotty could be open to`character’ roles in star-studded Telugu movies to expand his base in the two Telugu states. “With his booming voice and command over Telugu language, the actor is bound to do one or two Telugu movies in 2019”.
