Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University selected to implement Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) has been selected as a regional coordinating institute for implementing the Unnat Bharat  Abhiyan (UBA), a scheme introduced by HRD Ministry to empower people in villages by offering skill development training. 

For implementing the UBA scheme, the MHRD selected 40 higher learning institutions including IITs, NITs and varsities across the country. Very soon, SVVU would enter MoU with IIT Delhi, the acting national-level nodal agency. 

The SVVU would be coordinating UBA scheme in rural areas of 8 Rayalaseema and coastal districts. Similarly, the Andhra University (AU) would coordinate the UBA scheme in 7 districts including north coastal districts.

The role of the varsities is to design and train the people in livelihood skills as directed by the IIT Delhi. It may be noted that the SVVU is already organising several skill training programmes to rural people in dairy, veterinary, fisheries and other fields. 

For effective implementation of the UBA scheme, MHRD would sanction Rs 10 lakh to SVVU per year. In the next two years, SVVU will take up several skill training programmes in 8 districts.

On being selected as coordinating institute for the UBA scheme, varsity Vice-Chancellor Y Haribabu said that they have more responsibility to implement the UBA scheme effectively in rural segments as per the MHRD guidelines. 

The SVVU would take the UBA scheme to the doorstep of people in rural areas by coordinating with other higher learning institutions, 
he stated.
