Kurnool: The State government with a mission to impart quality education on par with the corporate schools started model schools across the State.

The students of poorest sections would be taught classes in English medium at the schools. Besides teaching lessons to the students in English, the students would also be taught discipline, culture and preparing for competitive exams.

The schools provide a homely atmosphere to the students. Once a student gets admission in 6th standard, he or she can pursue education up to Intermediate free of cost.

The students, boys and girls would be provided with free clothes, books and mid-day meals. The government usually recruits regular teachers. Besides recruiting regular teachers it would also engage guest faculty, Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) to teach on hourly basis to impart education in English medium.

The Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) would be given Rs 130 per class and the Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) Rs 120. Both PGTs and TGTs have to complete 100 classes a month then they would be paid Rs 13,000 and Rs 12,000 respectively as salary.

Whoever misses the classes would be paid according to the classes taught In the month registered in the register. Unfortunately, the faculty engaged as guest lecturers are facing hard times as they are not being paid salary for the last seven months.

D Hari Krishna, a PGT working in a model school at Pagidiyala village, speaking to The Hans India  said that he joined the school seven months ago. He has been engaged to teach Chemistry to 9th, 10 and Intermediate students.

Since his joining he was not paid a single pie. He said it is very hard to handle the domestic problems if salary is not paid. He said 6 lecturers were appointed as guest faculty at Pagidiyala Model School. There are 36 model schools in the district and around 480 to 500 guest teachers are extending services, said Hari Krishna.

Another lecturer, Parvathi, said that she has to travel around 120 kilometres to reach Pagidiyala from her home town Lakshmi Puram. She pointed out that she was not paid salary for the last six months.

“I am shelling out Rs 4,500 a month towards bus ticket. Though we are engaged on less salary, we are imparting quality education to the students,” said Parvathi.

“How to support our family and the ever increasing daily needs if the government does not pay salary,” asked another PGT Devamma. She further said that the guest faculty is kept away from PRC and arrears. She urged the government to immediately clear the pending salaries and save them from facing financial crunch.
