Central team to assess cyclone damage in Eluru

Eluru: A Central team will be visiting West Godavari district to assess the loss caused by Cyclone Pethai on January 28.

This was disclosed by District in-charge Collector M Venugopala Reddy at a review meeting held here on Wednesday evening.

The team will arrive in Eluru town at 11 am on the day. The Collector asked the officials of Agriculture, Horticulture and Electricity department to submit a detailed report on the damage to the property  caused by the cyclone to the visiting team.

While paddy, maize and tobacco crops were damaged on an extent of 1,065 hectares in the district, chilli crops and other plantations were damaged in 337 hectares. The Electricity Department incurred a loss of Rs 74 lakh, he informed.

The Collector directed the officials to make arrangements for the central team to visit the cyclone-hit areas apart from setting up a photo exhibition on cyclone loss in the district at the Collectorate.
