‘DGTR playing key role in supporting domestic industry’

Visakhapatnam: Additional Director General of Trade Remedies Shubra said that Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry is playing a pivotal role for providing trade defense support to domestic industry and exporters in dealing with increasing instances of trade remedy investigations instituted against them by other countries.

Participating at a programme “Trade Remedies” organised by the AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry in association with DGTR in the city on Saturday, she said, Government of India, in recent years has initiated various safeguard measures such as countervailing duty, anti-dumping duties to ensure that the domestic industries are not affected by the increasing instances of unfair trade practices. 

Briefing the DGTR policy and procedures, N I Chowdhary, Director in DGRT said, in the last three years, India initiated more than 850 anti-dumping, countervailing duty, safeguard cases to deal with the rising incidences of unfair trade practices.

Pydah Krishna Prasad, Chairman, AP Chambers, Visakhapatnam Zone, said, the pro-active initiative of DGTR is a good move to enlighten about the policies.

Most of the participants  from the manufacturing, export oriented organisations opined that the domestic industry has been, suffering due to cheap imports.

Poonam Kumar, Assistant DGFT, N Varun Koundinya, Deputy Commissioner of Customs K Kumar Raja, Vice-Presiden of AP Chambers M Sudhir, Vice- Chairman of AP Chambers participated in the discussions.
