4 engineering students die as car hits divider, truck

Guntur: Four engineering students were killed and another three students were injured when the car in which they were travelling hit the road divider on the NH-5 and later rammed into a municipal garbage truck at Lalpuram near here on Monday. The students were going towards Guntur city to celebrate new year later in the night. 

According to Guntur South DSP M V S N Murthy, seven students of RVR&JC Engineering College were coming to Guntur from their college at Chowdavaram to celebrate new year. 

When their car reached Lalpurm, Doppala Kaushik, who was driving the vehicle, lost control over it and  hit the road divider on NH-5 and then it rammed into GMC garbage truck before overturned.

Under the impact of the crash, hand of the one of the deceased  was thrown two metre away from the accident spot. The collision was very powerful as the car was travelling at a speed of 160 kmph-170 kmph. All the victims were engineering first year students. 

G Koteswara Rao, 17, Ch Sai Ram, 17, T.Dhanush, 18, died on the spot. D Ghafoor, 17, succumbed to injuries at GGH. Another three students, T Hirendra , A Sivaji and Kaushik were undergoing treatment in the GGH. 

DSP MVSN Murthy said, “At the time of accident the car was going at a speed of 160 kmph. That is why the impact was so severe. The car first hit the road divider at Lalpuram and hit the GMC truck going ahead of it.”

GMC truck driver D Kiran Kumar, cleaner Ramu and worker B Rudraiah also sustained minor injuries in the accident. Nallapadu police registered a case and took up investigation.
