Fisheries dept suffers Rs 33.90 lakh loss
Kakinada: The fisheries sector suffered Rs 33.90 lakh loss in East Godavari due to cyclone Phethai. The measures initiated by the district administration and RTGS said to have minimised the losses especially human loss.
According to fisheries department sources, two fishing boats worth of Rs 28 lakh were lost in the cyclone and four more boats were damaged along with fishing nets. The damages to fishing nets were estimated at Rs 5.90 lakh.
The damaged two fishing boats belonged to Parlova Peta and Dummula Peta fishermen in Kakinada and remaining four damaged boats belonged to suburban area fishermen of Kakinada.
East Godavari fisheries department deputy director P Jaya Rao said 26 crew of 6 boats were safe. The owners of two boats who lost in cyclone will be assisted by the government in the form of subsidy to buy new boats, the DD revealed.
