30th Book Festival to welcome New Year

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Book Festival Society (VIFISO) in collaboration with NTR Trust and State Department of Culture and Language is organising the book festival here welcoming the new year, said Vijay Kumar, head of Emesco Books and convener of the Vijayawada Book Festival Society.

In fact, this is the 30th book festival which has been organised without a break for the last three decades.

In all likelihood, Chief Minister is going to inaugurate the book festival this year too depending upon his availability.

Noted litterateur Prof Rajmohan Gandhi and his spouse Usha Gandhi would be the chief guests to the festival. Rajmohan Gandhi is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji. 

The premises of the booki festival would be named after the noted publisher as Navabharat Prakasa Rao Pranganam, Vijay Kumar said.

He said that a series of programmes would be organised throughout the days of book festival including the popular ‘Walk for Books’ programme in which prominent personalities would participate.

The main dais would be named after noted writer the late Yaddhanapudi Sulochana Rani, paying tribute to her contribution in promoting book reading among sizable population.

State Chief Electoral Officer RP Sisodia, Prof Raghurama Raju, and Prof Kolakaluri Enoch would be special guests on the day of inauguration of the book festival which would be kept open from 2 pm to 9 pm.

NTR Trust CEO Vishnuvardhan said that there would be competitions to the students on various topics every day. 

“Amaravati Science Congress, Amaravati Social Sciences Congress and Amaravati History Congress would be organised for spreading the knowledge,” he said and added that there would be some more conclaves for Judges and Advocates, Youth Arts and Culture, IT, IoT and Opportunities and for entrepreneurs conclave. There would be an exclusive conclave for journalists, he added.

VIFISO president Swarna Venkata Narayana, Secretary Prajasakti Lakshmaiah, Book Festival honorary president Babji and several others were present.
