Electric cars best for city garbage collection

Nellore: Municipal Administration P Narayana assured women of providing training in running battery-fitted autos for their employment. He inaugurated electric autos here on Saturday for collecting garbage. 

The Minister said these vehicles are being engaged in Nellore on pilot basis and stated that electric vehicles are ten times cost effective when compared to use of diesel vehicles for garbage collection. 

The auto-rickshaws have to be charged for four hours and they run for at least 100 km in city limits. He said the cost would not exceed 30 paisa per kilometre where the cost of diesel was around Rs 3 per km. 

He said these autos are having hydraulic system where they can easily shift the garbage and they can move in narrow streets and take easy curves. 

Further, civic officials under direct guidance of the Minister cleaned the drains and have taken measures to prevent overflowing in the city in case of flash floods occur due to cyclone. 

He visited Dammaidibba, Sivagiri Colony and other areas on Saturday and inspected ongoing works of cleaning the drains. 

He asked the officials to widen the bridge at Sivagiri Colony for 30 feet. He also mentioned they were planning to widen narrow roads located in the colony keeping in view of future traffic. 

The Minister said they had allocated Rs 385 crore for laying roads in city that were damaged due to ongoing works and added the works would be completed by next March. 

He also asked the official to clear drains where garbage and plants occupied them. Minister Narayana said they would make the city beautiful one by March 2019.
