Mondelez’s initiative in employing women gets pat
Tirupati: At the Economic Times Food Processing and Packaging Summit, held during December 6-7 in New Delhi, the veterans in food industry widely appreciated Mondelez’s bold idea of employing rural women in its Sri City plant.
The summit was aimed at delivering strategic insights and key learnings on critical aspects within the food processing and packaging landscape, by bringing together the industry veterans.
In the summit, the People Expert, Mondelez India P Krishna Chaitanya presented a case study titled ‘A Success Story–Super Women@Sricity-Transforming Lives’.
He spoke about the inspiring story of the super women, who were having just high school study from rural areas across Andhra Pradesh with no industrial experience and highlighted how they operate the most advanced machines with complete ownership and confidence. He also illustrated how their lives and families were transformed.
When the plant was set up three years ago, the company set out to build a factory floor with equal representation of women. Accordingly, now of the 300 employees on the shop floor, 50 per cent are women.
“It was a bold assignment experimented, and we are very happy for its success and for creating impact,” says the Plant Lead Sandeep Talgaonkar. The founder MD of Sri City Ravindra Sanna Reddy observed that Mondelez’s thoughtful measures make the women employees to feel it as a safe and welcoming workplace.
Last month, Mondelez India’s Sri City plant bagged ‘Best Companies for women’ award from the Chennai-based AVTAR Group and US-based gender parity champion ‘Working Mother Media’.
