Progress of NREGP works reviewed

Kakinada: Collector Karthikeya Misra has said that the government sanctioned an amount of Rs 100 crore for National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) works. Reviewing the work progress of NREGP with the officials here on Wednesday, he said the funds can be spent for laying of cement, black tar and DBM roads and underground drainage works etc in the district.

He directed the ITDA project officers of Rampachodavaram and Chintoor to finalise the works to be taken up in the agency area immediately and asked them to initiate steps to start the works in one month. So far in this financial year, an amount of Rs 339.29 crore was paid for providing employment to 5,77,465 people. As many as 164.7 lakh working days were created through NREGP and an average wage of Rs 207 was paid to each person.
 
An amount of Rs 264.45 crore was spent for component material and Rs 21.86 crore was spent towards contingent expenses, he added. So far, as many as 556 kms length of cement roads were laid as against targetted 564 kms length of roads.

He also directed the officials to speed up the modernisation works of general hospital. Rs 28.52 crore worth of works were proposed, he informed. Joint Collector-2 CH Sattibabu, district revenue officer SVS Subba Lakshmi, hospital superintendent Dr Raghavendra Rao and other officials were present.
