Restrict air, sound pollution: TPA

Vijayawada: The members of Tax Payers Association (TPA), Vijayawada expressed their concern over the increasing pollution levels, both air and sound pollution, in the city. 

In this regard, a letter was penned addressing the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner to take appropriate measures in controlling them.

Addressing the media the TPA secretary, MV Anjaneyulu said the air pollution in the city was at alarming state with Air Quality Index showing more than 150 which is very unhealthy. 

The main reason for air pollution in the city was leaving the road margins without cleaning, poor maintenance of roads, digging of roads for various works like storm water drains, gas pipeline which is taking a long time to complete resulting in air and dust pollution.

The other major problem the denizens are facing these days is sound pollution. A few people and the youth prefer high-end bikes and the company fitted silencers were replaced with fancy silencers emitting sound which was more than the audible range creating sound pollution. 

He said that human ear can bare up to 70 decibels but the fancy silencers would emit sound which was about 170 to 200 decibels creating panic to the passers-by on the roads.

On behalf of the TPA, they demanded that the VMC Commissioner and the concern authority take stern action to control air pollution and sound pollution. 

He further said that they would write a letter to Pollution Control Board to take action, said Anjaneyulu.
