Naidu aims high on interlinking of rivers

Amaravati: Gained confidence on interlinking of rivers in state by connecting Godavari with Krishna, Chief Minister NChandrababu Naiduaimed at another big goal to interlink all five major rivers in the State, under the project Mahasangamam. 

The interlinking of Vamsadhara to Nagavali and Godavari to Penna are under progress. The interlinking of Godavari and Krishna has been completed even before completing the Polavaram Project on Godavari. 
State government constructed Pattiseema to divert water from Godavari to Krishna and successfully supplied water to Prakasambarrage through Pavitrasangamam near Vijayawada.

Now, Chandrababu Naidu aimed to complete first phase of interlinking of Godavari with Penna river by the end of this year. 

The tenders process is under progress for this project, officials informed to Chief Minister during last review meeting a couple of days ago.

The Irrigation authorities estimated that Rs 6,020 crore will be required for interlinking Godavari – Krishna rivers with Penna River under phase-1. This will stabiliseayacut for about 9,61,000 acres. 
The phase-1 comprises works commencing from Harischandrapuramin Thullurmandal to Nakirekalmandalin Guntur district. The department has already invited tenders for phase-1. 

Water is drawn from Godavari to Krishna through Pattiseema Project. 

After completing the first and second phases of Godavari-Krishna-Penna interlinking, the Godavari river water could be diverted to Penna delta in Nellore district. 

Water would be lifted from Harischandrapuram and transported to Nagarjuna Sagar Jawahar Canal at Narsingapaduin Nakirekalmandal in Guntur district. 

From there, water will be diverted to Penna river through Prakasam and Nellore districts.
