Dry spell continues in AP State

Update: 2018-10-06 05:30 IST

Visakhapatnam: With scorching heat conditions prevailing in the State, the people are witnessing hot summer atmosphere. During the last week, the temperatures have touched 38 degrees Celsius at several places across the State.

According to the monsoon calendar, the State is supposed to receive good rains in the months of September and October. However, with the poor influence of the Southwest monsoon, out of 13 districts in the State seven districts have not received normal rainfall. Though the other six districts were listed in the normal rainfall category, West Godavari and Srikakulam districts only received good rainfall.

According to the climate conditions in the month of October (every year), the average temperature is between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius. However, during the past one week, the temperature recorded across the State was higher than the normal temperatures by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius.

“Due to the weakening Southwest monsoon and no trough and upper air circulation impact there are no clouds which lead to the most adverse climate conditions not only in Andhra Pradesh but also Telangana State. With the present calculations, similar situation will continue for another six to seven days,” one of the IMD scientists explained.

As there is no cool wind impact, the dry spells are continuing and the day temperature may cross 38 degrees Celsius also, he added. Meanwhile, according to the IMD predictions, the dry spells will continue inmajority places of East Coast India.

The wind direction from the shore to sea is the reason of present dry spells in the Telugu States. Highest temperature recorded in October was at Bondapalle mandal in Vizianagaram district with 39.08 degrees Celsius while the lowest temperature also recorded in the same district in Komarada mandal with 34.25 degrees Celsius.

The farmers are looking at the sky for a spell of rains as water is badly needed for several crops. The farmers who are cultivating various crops are depending on the monsoon rains and are concerned about their crops.
