CR Reddy College students take part in Heritage Trek in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: A heritage trek, walk and Baithak at historic Kondapally Fort was organised jointly by the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) and Jignasa Interface Private Limited on Saturday.

About 200 students from Eswar Engineering College, Narasaraopet and Sir CR Reddy College of Engineering, Eluru  participated in the heritage trek from Kondapally village and reached the hill fort.

The trek was led by Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, CCVA and Y Bhargav of Jignasa team.

Later, the students were taken for a heritage walk up to the Queens Mahal and proceeded up to the Market yard, Jail khana, Barracks and Elephant stable where the walk culminated into a heritage Baithak.

Dr Reddy explained to the students that the hill fort began to 
be built by Anavemareddy of the Kondaveedu Reddy Dynasty, occupied by the Ganapathi’s of Odisha, seizure of the fort by Krishnadevaraya an emperor of the Vijayanagara Dynasty in 1516 AD, passed into the hands of the Qutbshahi rulers, followed by the Mughals, English, French and the English in subsequent periods leaving a great monumental legacy.

He also explained on the building technology of the fort and fortifications at Kondapally using cyclopean Masonry and lime mortar prepared in traditional techniques. 

He also briefed the students on various structures built which were suitable to the then prevailing war strategies right from the Reddy period to the British period by citing a few cannons positioned on the bastions of the fort, said Nagireddy.
