Ban on plastic use in Rajahmundry from Sep 15
Rajamahendravaram: Ban on plastic in the city will be implemented from Saturday.
The municipal corporation decided to implement the ban effectively by imposing fines as well as registering cases on the respective persons who uses, sells or purchases plastic material such as carry bags.
According to corporation Commissioner GV Sumit Kumar, the corporation decided to make Rajamahendravaram plastic-free city. Earlier, it was decided to implement ban on plastic from August 15.
However, because of requests from various quarters it was postponed to September 15.
The banned plastic goods include all categories of plastic carry bags, plastic tea cups, plates, thermocol tea cups, glasses, plates, water packets, cloth packing covers etc.
The plastic materials not banned include plastic raincoats, chips, saline bottles, thermocol boxes used for medicines, plastic pens, milk packets, plastic pouches used in nurseries, silver packing covers and water bottles.
He appealed to all sections people, trading community to extend their cooperation for the effective implementation of ban on plastic in the city.
A fine of Rs 1,000 would be imposed for first time, Rs 2,000 for second time and Rs 3,000 for third time and finally the license of respective business house would be cancelled.
An amount of Rs 250 fine would also be collected from the people who throw plastic waste in public places.
